little big boy... with his own room!

over the last few days, we have been busy purchasing and putting together some new items for my little man's room.  we finally bought him his "big boy bed" and also a few storage units for his toy collections.  on my list of upcoming "things to buy" is a book case, some shelving and maybe a few minimalistic decorations.

i'm so thankful for ikea as we are able to snag some great buys with his bed and storage!  i spent so much less than what i originally planned and cannot wait for the finished results.  i'm hoping we're done prior to baby #2's arrival... this is our special way of easing the little man into his new phase of life as "Kuya" (big brother).

as it is, he is spending his very first night alone in his own room.  i'm kind of anxious about it as we have always kept him on our bed these last two years.  i'm sure i'll be wandering over to his bedroom sometime tonight and will be slipping in beside him for some shut-eye (this is the reason we bought him a twin bed instead of the originally planned toddler bed!).

on the topic of room decorations, i was browsing etsy yesterday and fell madly in love with some beautiful children's prints by TRAFALGAR SQUARE.  here are a few of my favourites...

i am seriously enthralled by all the prints in their shop and am planning on purchasing a few for my boy's room.  wouldn't that just be lovely?  i'm hoping to snag these four to begin with... and build from there.

dancing king

two weekends ago, we attended a wedding reception
and decided to take our little man with us.
we usually would never take a toddler to events such as these
as we all know how much ruckus they cause
but for this certain event we were lucky that the bride and groom
have opened their beautiful celebration to the little tykes.

so off we went dress up my little man in his H&M get-up.
yes, that`s from head to toe.

the best part of the evening of course was that my little dude was a behaved little boy!
this is never really the case with him.
he is usually a bundle of energy... always on the go.
but for once, he sat to eat dinner and listened to speeches.

but when the music got going,
he jumped out of his seat and started dancing to the beat!

and when the people started milling around the dance floor
well.... this is what happens....

i am so thankful that at least this little man of mine did not get my two left feet!

pop-pa!

everytime the little man screams POP-PA!, we've learned that it is not to get his dad's attention, but because he sees popcorn going in the microwave.

yes... the little man has learned to love his pop-corn!

here he is over the weekend enjoying a massive bowl of popcorn at the children's festival.

i'm off to share a bag of popcorn with my two boys!

for my memories' sake

these days, the only quiet time i get is when the little man is down for his naps. not that i'm complaining --- he is at his most active now, fully walking and babbling along --- having conversations on the phone, chit-chatting with his lolo and lola (grandpa and grandma) on skype even though they live about 15 minutes away from us.

the little bhubba has been talking so much that i have to write this blog just so i can go back to it years from now and remember this with a smile. here are his first words (bear with this proud mom, will ya?):

tut - copying the sound the phone makes when dialing
tutbrush - for his toothbrush
bus/truck - complete with screams when he sees them
caaaahhhhrrrr - trying to scare us when he says the simple car
cat - he calls even dogs a cat!
bu-bles - when he sees his play bubbles
balllll - emphasizing the 'l'
tootle - for the turtles he sees at the aquarium
pish - for fish (so typically filipino switching the p for f)
saack - for socks
shu - for shoes
cheese/juice - always looking for food
didi - for milk
bibi - when seeing other babies
mmmmm - for whenever he first tastes something

yesterday, i took a really good look at him --- a long good look. and i wonder, where has time flown? is he REALLY turning 16 months old this 30th?!?

i seriously wish that the clock can just slow down a little, give me more chances to be able to enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime age.

light a candle, say a prayer

it has been a very scary weekend for my little family.

Dylan has been suffering from high fevers since Friday and succumbed to a febrile seizure on Saturday when his temperature skyrocketed at a fast pace. i was all alone at home with him and i had a very tearful, panicky few minutes as i held one very convulsive little boy in my arms and spoke with a 911 operator and begged them to please hurry up.

six men in total came to my front door --- with a disoriented and crying dylan trying to make sense of all the commotions surrounding him and me, in a bathrobe crying my head off.

i have no clue how i even picked up the phone to dial the emergency number when my heart has dropped rock bottom already to see my son looking like death was coming for him. that's what i thought. i thought he was dying.

THANK GOD HE WASN'T.

today, we decided to again rush him to emergency (this time, to the Children's Hospital and without the help of paramedics) as he had a much shorter episode than that of saturday but nontheless, it was another episode.

tests were run and thankfully, dylan is suffering only from high fevers and nothing much more complicated than that. we also were informed that these seizures are quite normal for children and that usually, there is a history within the family of others having the same episodes as youngsters (that's my dad and younger brother for you).

on this little post of mine today, i ask that you include my son in your prayers.... for his speedy recovery and for God's blessing, love and protection to surround him.

lazy sundays

Weekends are all about some quality time with the little tyke. It's just the two of us on weekends as the hubby works those days so I get to have Dylan all to myself (minus when we visit the grandparents).

On this rainy sunday afternoon, lunch with my little man meant a bowl of yummy creamy mushroom soup, some crackers and his favourite side of cheese. He is a big fan of mushroom soup and I laughed my head of at the next photo.

Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you. My little man was holding this glass bowl to his mouth and was SLURPING his soup. I think he was a little annoyed at me for taking breaks in between spoonfulls and took it upon himself to, well, feed himself!

The greatest thing happened this afternoon though, and I was so glad I did not miss this --- Dylan was standing with no support when he suddenly started taking steps towards me --- and I counted 1... 2... 3... 4... and 5! Five steps and he plops down on the floor, smiles hugely and hurriedly crawls to me seemingly saying "Look, Mommy! I've finally done it!".

I picked him up and laughed and twirled with him in our living room for a good 10 minutes, rejoicing in his first few steps ALL BY HIMSELF. It's unfortunate the hubby didn't get to see it (and he was bummed) but there will be other 'firsts' that he will get to see.

water makes me smile

My favourite time of the day, well, is actually at night!

At night, I get to spend time with both my boys and my most absolute favourite is this...

Bathtime.

It is seriously my heaven after being up at 5am and being at work an hour early and staying an extra half hour late.

And not even my bathtime --- but the little man's bathtime! It's such a joy to watch him play in the water until his fingers and toes go pruny. He thoroughly enjoys it and would much rather play with the water than his bath toys!

What's your favourite time of day?

his "daddy haircut"

when we were first discussing the concept of giving dylan his first haircut, the hubby and i were on opposite ends. i wanted my little man to shave all his baby hair off as supposedly, his hair will come back thicker and better and the hubby was opposed to it as he wanted dylan to only receive a trim. by the time we actually were at the salon, it was an entirely different matter...

let's fast forward to last wednesday at
The Hairloft:

dylan with a full head of hair waiting patiently for his turn for haircut!

trying to look for a chair --- more like a car to sit in!

we of course had to take home the first locke of hair that was cut off.

and so the buzzing begins (with the little man turned the opposite way!)

my little big boy sitting through his first "daddy haircut"

the first and only time he ever cried was 5 minutes into the cut. he screamed at us for 5 seconds and stopped when he saw diego on the tv screen in front of him.

voila! here are my twins :)

Beautiful Eyes

Goodness knows how long it took us to teach Dylan how to do his "beautiful eyes" trick... but now that he does know how, it's so much more harder to stop him!

The yelling and very loud laughter in the background was my mom --- forgive her --- Dylan is the very first grandchild in my side of the family and this type of reaction bubbles out of everyone when Dylan does something as simple as point, say "what this", or even smile!

Hope this video lights up your day 'coz it sure does mine!

my mushy valentine

I had the bestest date for Valentines this year.

Actually, he was also my date last year along with the hubby --- but the hubby had to work this year so we are not celebrating heart's day until a little later this week.

But really, I am not complaining about my date because he was uber gorgeous, uber fun and uber delightful to be with!

Yes, he is definitely my mushy valentine ---

Learning to spoon his favourite peach yogurt.

Ahhh --- there goes the mush all over my little valentine's face!

The look of utter bliss.

I hope your Valentine's was just as delightful as mine was!

in a few short days...

... we are celebrating the little man's BIG ONE.

i'm also going back to work very shortly after.

so instead of spending my time blogging, i'm going to bed and cuddle my sweet smelling baby while he's at the age where cuddles and kisses are the most precious gifts you can give.

uber-delish

The other day, we could not resist handing over half a delicious mini-cream-puff-èclaire over to the little man.

Curiousity gets a hold of him as he tries to figure out the feel and taste of new food

Such bliss after finishing half of his uber decadent èclaire

The end result --- a bath to wash off the grubby little hands and chocolate filled face.
